Karen Everson
Licensed Professional Counselor
Karen Everson is a Licensed Professional Counselor, with special training as an LGBTQ+ therapist, a play therapist, and an EMDR/Trauma therapist. She has a Master of Arts degree in Professional Counseling from Amberton University; and has also studied at Abilene Christian University (BA degrees in history and journalism) and New York University (MA in cinema studies).
She works with individuals, couples, families, and occasionally conducts therapy groups. Karen is a Person-Centered Counselor who sees clients of all ages, starting with little ones around 3 years old. She has worked with clients on the Autism Spectrum, and is trained in EMDR to help clients suffering from PTSD, sexual abuse, and grief. She also has training and experience in affirmative therapy with transgender and gender non-conforming individuals, and those with issues regarding their sexual-orientation.
Among Karen’s non-work interests are travel, music of all kinds, movies, and books. She’s a Dallas-native, but has adjusted to life in Houston. She lives with her husband and their pampered cat.
Karen’s goal is to strive to create an atmosphere of trust and acceptance so that her clients can explore and define present problems, develop future goals for an improved life, and work in a systematic fashion toward realizing those goals.
